Well I had a whole message typed up and was about ready to send it when my machine freaked out and locked up a few hundred processes, including mine. I was going to leave it alone but I saw another "polite" flame and said the hell with it. (Well that isn't actually what I said ;) Let's clear the air. I am sick of polite flames (or otherwise) about Copying ROM cards.. About HP's lack of testing and the whole trade in deal. By the time that one gets to a forum like this they have pretty well formed their system of biases and beliefs regarding software and hardware. This translates to: The people that believe that copying ROM cards is totally wrong will continue to believe so. The people who believe that it ok, will continue to believe so. Flaming about it on this group is not going to change anyone's mind. For those who say that HP fucked up with the older version ROMs... Would you rather that they hadn't released the Calc when they did?..not provided an upgrade..not said anything about bugs? I can say that I have NEVER regretted getting my calculator. I have nothing but respect for HP even if I do question certain policies at times. I have never received support for any product like I have for the hp48sx. I have bought many peices of software and a fair bit of hardware and much of it has bugs and it harder to deal with than the hp48sx and absolutely NONE of it has had the support. I am glad that I can update my calculator. For those who don't feel that it is right to upgrade, don't. Continue not telling people you know, that there is an upgrade path. For those of you who feel that they need the latest version, get it. I can't say for sure that I would ever really run up against a nasty bug but I think that there is alot to come with this calculator and would like to keep my options open. I am sorry, I have inserted my bias here. Something in this thread that might interest everyone. A friend of mine today, called HP regarding the upgrade. He contacted the lady that is handling all this. She told him that he would be put down for May. (I was wrong when I said it was Feb only apparently) She also told him that he might not get a version E. We was obviously taken aback as was I when he told me.... She then told him that he would get whatever the "lastest" version is at that time. Implying that there might be one after E. I personally find this highly unlikely but not out of the realm of possiblities. Something to think about at least.. So to conclude.. I am sick.. sick and tired. I am on three mailing lists besides participating in the discussions here, and they are ALL into flaming now. It is driving me nuts.. Let's get back to what this group should be. A reasonable discussion of the future posiblities of the hp48sx and the exchange of programs. Damn, I did it again. Personal biases...that is, this group is for ALL handhelds and I am sure that the hp28 and portfolio.. etc.. people are getting tired of this crap. If you have the great desire to send a reply then then put it in mail. OR if you post to the group, tell everyone ahead of time so that they can all step out for some air. ;) ian -- -=Runaway Daemon=-
