I got my Revision E replacement for the HP48sx earlier this week but I noticed that it was different from the Rev. A version... The keys are NOT "clicky" and does not provide a positive tactile feedback that was in my revision A machine...I noticed that all the keys were very "mushy" except for the 0 key and the ENTER key... I was just wondering if folks out there with Revision E machine also have this "mushy" keyboard feeling... I really liked the "clicky" feeling in my old machine and I'm wondering if I should get it sent back in for a replacement. I've always had this fear that "mushy" keys would mean that the keys would wear out faster than the "clicky" keys.... If this is so, then I'd like to get a replacement... Yes.. this seems to be the case for my calc as well. The only key that has the click feel to it on mine is ENTER. All the rest are positively mushy. I do know that some of the Rev E machines do have the "clicky" feel to the keys as a few of my friends have them. I don't know what to think of it. I wouldn't worry about the keys wearing out but I can say that it will take some getting used to. Now that I have made a good start at wearing off the little horizontal scrape marks on all the new keys, I am still missing keystrokes because there is no real indication that the key is pressed. I find myself hitting the keys a bit harder but I think that will pass. ian -- -=Runaway Daemon=-

I also have a revision E calculator with the same feel so your's is not a fluke. I would also like to know if this is normal or mabey a bad production run or something... Daren Patel [^_^] darenp@ccwf.cc.utexas.edu The University of Texas at Austin

I am scheduled to send my HP48 in to HP for a Rev E upgrade. After hearing about at least 2 cases of the loss of tactile feedback on the keyboard, I'm wondering if I should just keep my Rev A. Does anybody know if HP replaces your calculator with a *NEW* machine, or do you get someone elses REV A that has been upgraded to a REV E? I could much easier live with the Rev A "bugs" than I could with a "mushy" keyboard. Boy.....what a choice! \paul pauld@fs1.ece.cmu.edu

The upgrades are new machines, not hack jobs on rev A machines. My rev E keyboard is not quite as solid as rev A but I would not call it "mushy" at all!
