A few recent items have discussed the Sage II and the P-System; one
particular comment was that they had implemented a wierd Fortran variation.
Well, that variation is defined in the Fortran 77 (actually 78) ANSI STD
manual, as the official Fortran Subset. It was intended largely for the
microprocessor market as a Full Fortran 77 compiler might be a bit much
for some micro systems. Soooo They did what they were supposed to do.
Funny thing is, I know of no one else providing the Official Subset lang
and there is as a result a distressing lack of software for such a compiler
to chew on. Does anyone know of other implementations of the Fortran 77
subset? Does somebody sell subset software packages?
(Incidently, the SAGE II is not very "micro" -- the software leaves something
to be desired tho.)
