HANDHELD DISK DRIVE ENHANCES HP 48SX

Corvallis, Oregon - February 15, 1991 Q Sparcom Corporation has just
introduced the Portable Professional(tm) FD-1000, a battery-operated disk
drive for the HP 48SX scientific expandable calculator. The drive reads and
writes in PC-DOS format on 3.5" disks, providing a moderately-priced data
storage and transfer device for calculator and handheld computer users.

The Portable Professional(tm) FD-1000 is powered for 10 hours of remote
operation, supports 720KB and 1.44MB capacity disks, and uses an embedded
Kermit(tm) file transfer protocol. The drive is shipped with an AC wall
adapter, a serial cable, and a preformatted 1.44MB disk containing Sparcom's
File Manager program. This screen-oriented utility allows the user to easily
save calculator data in directories and transfer selected files to a printer,
PC, or the FD-1000.

Kermit(tm) is a public-domain file transfer protocol developed at Columbia
University. There are Kermit(tm) programs available for many computers and
the HP 48SX calculator. This 'generic' protocol allows data transfer between
two completely different machines; for example, from the HP 48SX calculator to
a Unix workstation. A PC-DOS version of Kermit(tm) is available from Sparcom.

The list price for the Portable Professional(tm) FD-1000 is $389.95. For more
information and product delivery contact: Sparcom Corporation, 897 NW Grant
Avenue, Corvallis, Oregon 97330, phone (503) 757-8416 or fax (503) 753-7821.
