[comp.sys.handhelds] HP48 auto-power-off override, Tetris

mjkobb@media-lab.MEDIA.MIT.EDU (Michael J Kobb) (02/26/91)

Greetings,

Just a quick summary of the responses I got to my question about whether it
is possible to override the HP's auto-power-off. I asked the question because
when running Tetris, I hit 'P', or Pause, and forgot about it. When I picked
up the machine the next day, Tetris was still sitting there paused. I had
asked if the code disabled the power off, or if it never triggered because the
machine was busy.

The overwhelming response was simply that the machine was busy, and so the
auto power off never triggered. Evidently, the only way to avoid such a
problem in future is to REMEMBER that you left it on Pause. Alternatively,
the author, in his next release, could include code that would cause Tetris to
power down after a certain amount of time in Pause. Since it already supports
this feature (with game resumption) by pressing the 'O' key, I wouldn't think
it would be too difficult, in comparison to the rest of that code. :-)

Anyway, thanks!

Will do, Mike. I'll either post a complete version up in a couple of
days or just a modification to the keys program as soon as I finish
catching up on comp.sys. (from being absent for a almost two weeks, gag!)
