[comp.sys.handhelds] [HP48] ON-MTH

seitz@az3.informatik.uni-stuttgart.de (Steffen Seitz) (03/01/91)

The following behavior has been observed on my HP48SX-Classic (=Rev.A :)

According to the manual, the key combination ON-MTH should result in a
'screendump' (same as PRLCD).
BUT:
This feature does not work, when called as the first action after pressing
[ON] while output is directed to the serial port (F-33=0, F-34=1). It seems
to me, that an arbitrary PRxxx from the PRINT-Menu is needed before ON-MTH
does what it should do.

This is just a theory but have you considered that it might be
creating the Prtpar when you do something in the Print menu and
that ON-[MTH] needs Prtpar but can't create it....

As the manual states (footnote on pg 605, under Printing the Display) the
serial port must be opened before using ON-MTH to print to the serial port.
When the 48 turns off the port is automatically closed, so you must open it
somehow. OPENIO will do this without printing or as you noted the other print
commands will also do the trick.

I like your terminology: HP48SX Classic (Rev A)!
