I haven't yet posted anything on this subject, but I though of something while reading Dr. Mandel's (longer) recent posting. Now, I was introduced to usenet just after I purchased a 28C. At the time we were not getting much traffic, but soon the maillist-newsgroup gateway came up and the information started flowing. It was here that I learned of the 28S, of EduCALC, of Bill's _Insights..._ and Wlodek's _Customizing..._ books, and of the 48, which was initially pre-announced (ie., via rumor mill) for introduction at a CHIP meeting concurant with the '89 Summer CES. Needless to say, said introduction was delayed somewhat, but our mouths were watering the whole time. The 48, though, with its two-way serial and I/R ports has changed the character of this group. Previously, postings were limited by the fact that all programs had to be hand entered. Now, they can mushroom into huge applications that dwarf even those published by the various magazines which cater to the so called household computers (the Commodores, Apples, Ataris, usw.) Further the introduction of the Wizards, Bosses, usw. has added a further dimention to c.s.h's charter. Certainly there is evidence to support a split. The scemantics of this split, though, are just as certainly no where near being resolved. I am going to, without much forethought, put up a suggestion for a possible subgroup to c.s.h. I suggest comp.sys.handhelds.saturn, in honor of the CPU of HP Corvalis's current line of handhelds. Obviously, this would exclude the Jaguar when it is released. As I said, I'm making this suggestion without the benefit of much forethought, but that does seem to be in the spirit of much of this discussion. I remind everyone who is interested in this subject to familiarize themselves with the current Usenet guidelines for group creation, and to remember avove all that ALL votes, when a vote is announced, MUST be MAILED to the vote-taker(s); please do not post any, as not only will they be void, but they will tend to invite flames. (Don't take this as saying that I'll flame you, but I'm certain someone will....) Happy commute, errrrr, ummmm, I mean comPuting! -JimC -- James H. I like the idea of using 'saturn', but new users might not realize that their hp28 or hp48 is a saturn. Thus, comp.sys.handhelds.hp-saturn might be better than comp.sys.handhelds.saturn. That way, the people who never read the list of groups in news.announce.newsusers will be able to find the group. -Karl Smith ksmith@jarthur.claremont.edu
