I would also be willing to pay $50 for a faster equation writer. I think that the Equation writer and algebra functions of the HP48SX are the most valuable unused functions. When I first saw a beta-test version of the 48 about a year ago the rumors had already started that HP was working on a faster Equation Writer. I still use the equation writer to enter expressions because it is much easier to see if it is correct in that format, but the editing functions are so slow that if I make a mistake I find it is quicker to abort (ATTN) the entry and start over than to use backspace etc. I would also like to use the algebra rules but once again the lack of speed makes them useless for me. Does anybody use the algebra rules for real (as opposed to demonstration) applications? I suspect that after all the flames and stuff over the upgrades that HP might not bring out a version F but will instead bring out the HP48SX+ (or something), and then everyone who _really_ wants one can go and spend $300. I personally would welcome a policy of upgrading for $50 but I expect I will probably have to sell my 48 (at a loss) and then buy the HP48SX+. Or, maybe I will sit this one out and wait for the HP58SXXCV++ (or whatever) in about three years time. You know, that's the model that will have color LCD, built in TV receiver, handwriting and speech processing, it will also have a direct link to the library of Congress and a built in laser printer. Seriously, HP, I would consider $50 a very reasonable price to pay for significant feature improvements like those mentioned above. Perhaps you could offer them on a ROM card?
