I have got some binary files here at WUARCHIVE.WUSTL.EDU, and as I am using a Macintosh myself, I can't get them downloaded to anything else than a string on TOS. Is there some way to convert such a string to a binary program ? Or are there any takers, who is not using a Macintosh, that will take the binary files, download them to their HP48sx and then translate them using ->ASC which is available in the comms subdirectory as asc.48 This will make the programs downloadable for everybody. -- ******************************************************* Povl H. Well the risk of starting a MAJOR flame war...oh what the hell, we haven't had a big one in a while ;-) Maybe people could post notes _before_ they post a massive 20 part uuencoded, compressed-zooed-zip tar file to the net. And if response warrants, then big things could be posted here. I know some losers only have dial up UUCP connections ;-) Really, I couldn't care less about them (we have about 1.544Mbps InterNet running into UBC, so it doesn't bother me). But they probably get all wound up when they cat the whole thing together, and the file turns out to be corrupt! Great, now the next 40 messages will be all about binary stuff on the net! Perhaps we could agree to send out messages to gauge interest in an item. And I know *damn* well that not everyone has ftp, or that they can only get mail, but it seems a little drastic to post a huge file, just so a few can get it in the mail. I also know that people on the net will help out others, if they can't ftp directly. If we all co-operate, people who don't have ftp will still get stuff (intact even), and others won't have to slog through stuff. Thanks, John Paul Morrison PS, did you notice I got through this whole rant without mentioning the phrase "scarce net bandwidth"?? Ooops! I said it!!
