using a portable on an airplane IS coming; the FCC is wrangling over the technical issues, but basically, it's like a very large cellular radio scheme; whether you'll drop carrier (yes, implying remote login to wherever) when being passed from cell to cell remains to be seen, both in the air context or on land; sorry not to have a ref, but i'm sure this is true. eh
