[comp.sys.handhelds] HP48 RAM cards in non-HP machines?

rrd@hpfcso.FC.HP.COM (Ray Depew) (03/25/91)

This is a serious question. Please don't laugh -- at least until you've
finished reading this.

There's been a lot of talk lately about fitting non-HP RAM cards into the
48. (Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't...) Well, I've got a
couple of RAM cards, and a Yamaha synthesizer upstairs, and I was wondering
if anyone has tried using an HP-48 RAM card in a non-HP machine? Kind of
the reverse of what everyone else has been talking about?

I know, I know it sounds stupid, but hey, if you've got a spare... Has
anybody tried it? Any non-obvious reasons why it wouldn't work?

Hi, Ray!

I don't have a clue about any special electrical specs of the
Yamaha, but I can't imagine anything that would cause it not
to work just fine with the HP card. You could see how different
HP48 programs sound on the Yamaha :) .....
The only difference between HP and Epson cards is the slightly
lower cutoff-and-clamp voltage threshold of the HP cards. I
don't the Yamaha could possibly care.

Hi Steve! Good to hear from you!

Thanks for your words on the HP/Yamaha RAM card. I'll post here when I
try it, and tell you how it worked.

"Pardon me, have you any Grey Poupon RAM cards?"
"But of course!"
