[comp.sys.handhelds] 48SX connectors for sale CHEAP

bruno@Fire.McRCIM.McGill.EDU (Bruno Hall) (04/05/91)

I AM RE-POSTING THIS FOR A FRIEND. PLEASE, DON'T RESPOND VIA EMAIL; I'VE BEEN
DYING TO SEND SOMEONE A COMPILER OR TWO. :-0

----------<snip>------------<snip>--------------<snip>------------------------
Since the original posting cycled off the net and there seems to be renewed
interest in HP connectors, here it is again. I'm down to about 200
connectors. Sorry some of you had to wait for your connectors, but Easter
holidays got in the way...

This is a friend's account, so replies via Email are a no-no. Use a stamp...

Yup. That's right. I have a BUNCH of those 2mm connectors for sale. Read on...

When I first bought my HP48 in april, I was astonished at the high price of
the HP serial cable (almost 100 bucks in Canada). I set out to find some of
those dinky little 2mm connectors. I got some samples and that solved *my*
problems, so I promptly forgot all about the whole thing.

Well, two weeks ago I got a bunch of answers to my queries. I sifted through
them all and decided to stay away from the simple 4 pin headers which needed a
special crimping tool. In fact, I thought it would be best if my fellow
netters didn't have to solder anything on to the 2mm side at all. I finally
purchased, and now have all over my appartement, 240 nearly finished cables.
The shipping cost and import duty on these suckers was murder, but what the
hell...

These have a 2mm connector on one side already attached to a 5 foot piece of
shielded 5 conductor cable. All that needs to be done is to solder a suitable
RS-232 connector (ie. DB25, DB9 or whatever you non IBM guys use) onto the
other end. The wires are colour coded, making this an easy job. The
connectors fit nicely onto the HP48 -- you can dangle the calculator from the
connector if you wish.

So here's the deal: I AM NOT GOING INTO THE CONNECTOR BUSINESS. This is a
one time only thing, done in the spirit of Xmas and all that. When the last
of my 240 cables have gone out the door, that's it. I have convinced my
girlfriend (bless her soul) to stuff these little monsters into enveloppes and
mail them off on the condition I take her out to dinner. So, if you feel like
you could offer one of these little guys a good home, send me a POSTAL money
order (no checks or bank MO's, they're a pain -- no cash, cuz that's stupid)
for 6 dollars US funds. That's more than I was hoping to slog them off for,
but I have to cover their cost, the exchange rate, duty, brokerage fees,
shipping to me, postage to you and dinner for my girlfriend ;-).

In exchange for your hard earned six US bucks, I'll send you one of these
cables & instructions on how to wire it up. To complete the cable, you will
need:
        - An RS-232 connector (DB25 or whatever, available at Radio Shack);
        - A soldering iron;
        - Some solder;
        - A pair of scissors;
        - optional: some epoxy putty (available at any hardware store -- Get
          the brown stuff to make the whole thing look like HP's connector).

This offer is valid only for Canada and the continental United States. I
don't want to have to deal with postage to the whole planet... Sorry.

Send your name, address, phone number & money order to:
        G.Winslow
        P.O.Box 611
        Succursale Cote-Des-Neiges
        Montreal, Quebec
        Canada, H3S-2V3

As I said, once I run out, that's it. No more. I'll Post a note here when I
start to run low.
