Sorry about two postings in one day... 1) The comarison to rec.arts.tv is inappropriate, as television shows come and go, and are far too numerous to be broken out unless they spawn a lifestyle, such as, say, Star Trek. Even if the HP48 were cancelled for poor ratings, that community won't go away. 2) It seems that a number of you who oppose the split feel that it is appropriate to lecture on the topic of how to use the news system efficiently to deal with groups with divergent interests. Let me suggest that it is also possible to use it to deal with multiple groups with similar interests; learn how to subscribe to new groups! My personal interests are VAX/VMS, Macintosh, and connecting the two. I subscribe to 12 groups to get reasonable coverage of that, and the amazing thing is that if I ignore the right line in the header, I can't tell if I'm reading an article in vmsnet.networks.desktop.pathworks or comp.protocols.appletalk. It truly boggles the mind. Get real, folks. The only people who suffer a real hardship from splitting the group are those who get it from gateways and pay for their feeds on a per-group basis, and by-and-large, those people have already weighed in on the issue. If you have a real point to make about a hardship the split will cause for you, and a suggestion as to how we can remedy it, make it, but remember, the last vote indicates that there is an emormous sentiment for a split, so try to work constructively on devising the one that works best for the whole group.
