I haven't upgraded my Rev A HP-48 for a Rev E yet because of the discussion a while back concerning the not-so-clicky keyboards that all the replacement calculators seemed to have. I received a letter from HP yesterday stating that June 17th is the "official" end date for the exchange program. The HP rep I talked to told me that the reason the replacement machines had a somewhat softer touch was that arubber "spill shield" had been installed over the 48 keyboard in all later production runs. This made the feel of the keys a little softer. I *really like* the feel of my old 41 keyboard. How do the replacement machines compare? Is there enough tactile feedback? What is the general opinion...is the rev E worth giving up a little clickness for? Your thoughts please. PS: I really don't care what we call this newsgroup. Let's do what we have to do and get on with discussing the HP-48. \Paul pauld@fs1.ece.cmu.edu or paul+@andrew.cmu.edu

I, too, was concerned about the keyboards before I upgraded, and I even went so far as to call up HP about it. They assured me that there was still plenty of tactile feedback, so I went ahead. And I am as happy as ever with the replacement. I can detect no mushyness whatsoever, on any keys. My only complaint is that now the beep isn't as loud as it used to be. Oh well.
