Recently, after having problems with my HP-28S, I sent two letters to Hewlett-Packard in Corvallis, OR. Today I got a phone call from a representative of HP stating that my 28S was defective and that if I wanted it replaced, all I had to do was send them my old one and they would send me a brand new replacement. This is terrific! I commend Hewlett-Packard for their customer service. What more could I ask for? Well, I am asking for more. But just a _little_ bit more. In my letters to HP I stated that after being a casualty of the "Memory Lost" error a number of times, I am not at all happy with the I/O capabilities (incapabilities) of the 28S. In hindsight, I realize I need a machine that readily does I/O's so that I can do regular backups. For this reason, I would like to purchase an HP-48SX. However, after I trade them my brain-dead one for a brand-spanking-new one I am still left with a HP-28S to deal with. My question is this: Is it reasonable for me to ask HP to exchange my HP-28S _AND_ the difference between mfg's suggested retail price of the 28S for a 48SX? (Translation: my 28S and check for a 48SX.) It seems to me that this solution should at least be considered. In this case, I turn outvery satisfied customer, and HP turns out the same both ways (is this a true assumption?). The phone call from their representative today kind of surprised me and I couldn't seem to spit out this suggestion. I would like to point out that I am not asking HP to just give me a 48SX for my 28S. I would like to thank them for the offer that they have previously extended, and ask them to consider my alternative. Is this a fair deal or what? Is it somehow against HP's policy? Am I being unreasonable? I can see the viewpoint that HP is doing the correct thing by willing to replace the defective product. But I take the viewpoint that the what the customer wants is always most important. thanks, randy ________________________________________________________________________ | _ Charles F.
