I have found as a student in AI classes that XLisp provides all of the features of Common Lisp that you can get into in a semester or two. XLisp also runs on PCs, Macs, Amigas, Ataris and Unix boxes. This is very handy, depending on what computers you have available. The advantage of Xlisp over using campus-based computers (e.g., VAX) is that a) you don't have to travel to the campus computing center(s) and b) you don't have to fight over access to a terminal. Since I never had a lot of free time back in college, this was a big win. > But, I'd like to get the students started on this by Weds., Jan 16. > Regular mail is probably much too slow. > > Can anyone tell me if there are .EXE files for the IBM PC somewhere that I can > ftp? I don't know about where you can FTP Xlisp (since I'm not on the Internet), but you can try the BIX BBS. BIX stands for Byte (magazine) Information eXchange. Grab a copy of Byte magazine at a newstand and then regsiter on BIX. Last time I was on there, the Lisp group and an Xlisp group both had XLisp executables for down-loading. > Thanks for any help! > Tom > > Dr. Thomas B.
