What are the dldmem.c and dlimage.c variants of xldmem.c and xlimage.c
and where did they come from?

The d*.c variation allocates strings and vectors like Xscheme using an
Xlisp maintained, compressable memory pool. I did the adaptation of what
is your Xscheme code!
