If you can wait till October get the new ATARI 1450XLD. Price under $900 Memory 64k Ram 24k Rom Double sided Double Density Disk Drive Built-in 256 colors Bus extension slots available (for soon to be released CPM card) has 8 slots and 2 serial ports Built in 300 baud auto dial modem Built in Voice syn. can read and say text Built in modulator 40x24 display (Atari has one of the cleanest displays around due to its very very very low RFI/EMI) 191x320 pixels in High Res. Built in printer port. I can go on but the Atari computers are by far the best buy around I used a c64 for a while and thought it was garbage. It uses to many peeks and pokes instead of nice little functions like SETCOLOR x1,x2,x3 x1=color register x2=color x3=hue PLOT X,Y turns on a pixel DRAWTO X,Y draws line from last plot point (0,0) default of course you could also POKE these on the Atari but it is nicer to have a name instead of a number. The Atari is about the best HOME computer around. Ready for ANY flames ihuxf!bryan

Those funny little peeks and pokes are a lot faster then some of the commands which you mentioned. Bill Vojak (WECo) ihnss!ihuxi!wjv

Hear, hear! I've been using the Atari 800 as both fun & games and "serious" for several months now. Some of the "serious" stuff includes: Payroll system Word processor Data Base Invoicing system (custom written by yours truly)....The others are off-the-shelf There is NOTHING around in its price range that beats it for capability A N D (underline/double-strike) SOFTWARE AVAILABILITY. That's what the computer is all about----software NOT HARDWARE. A computer is a tool---- Try to use a hammer without nails, a screw driver w/o screws...etc. You get my point. A C/64 could be FREE---it still would cost too much relative to the ATARI the first time you had to buy a software package and found i wasn't xxxxxxxxxx (it wasn't) available. Oh, yeah....don't forget Visicalc (TM)! ROb Botwin ....houxn!rb
