[comp.periphs.printers] replacement mx printhead

Help...I have a printer labeled "Texas Instruments 99/4 impact printer".
It looks a lot like an Epson MX-80; and indeed, epson is written all over
the inside of the case. I use it as a draft printer at home. Recently,
the printhead lost a dot. I checked with the local epson dealer who said
a replacement printhead (part only) from him would cost around $180. For
that price, I can buy a whole printer. I have heard rumors that there are
companies which rebuild print heads and sell them on a swap basis (like auto
starters or carberators.) So far, rumors are all I've found. Any suggestions
would be welcome. Thanks.
