[comp.periphs.printers] HP Deskjet Plus

jah1@uafhcx.uucp (JAMES ALAN HUGHES) (02/06/90)

I've been using the HP Deskjet Plus since September of last year. I haven't
ever had any problems with it until recently. It has started to print the
first half of the first page correctly, but from there on the print gets
lighter and lighter. I remember a friend making a comment about a problem
with the Deskjet doing this, but I can't remember what it was that I had to
do to have to problem fixed. I was wondering if anyone has heard anything
about a possible recall on a part in the Deskjet Plus, or what I needed to
do to fix it.

Regarding the print quality problem on DeskJet+.

The symptom you describe sounds like a case of a pen (i.e. ink cartridge)
running out of ink. Have you tried a new pen? I know this may seem
too obvious, but I have to ask :-). Have you tried to prime the pen?
If this doesn't help or only helps temporarily, read on ...

Although there hasn't been a recall, there is a user installable
service station upgrade that reduces the instance of certain pen
problems/failure modes. The upgrade (or fix) is
free. The printers we are currently manufacturing has this improved
service station. Depending on when you got your printer, you
may already have this improvement, but I don't know serial numbers
and so forth. The symptom you describe doesn't sound quite
like the problem addressed by the upgrade, but it could be.

To order your "Print Cartridge Station Upgrade Kit"
(P/N:02276-67801) call (503) 757-2002. You can get HP to
install the fix, but it is fairly easy to do yourself, and that is
what we prefer.
