I need to download some soft font definitions to a Panasonic KX-P1124 printer (operating in Epson LQ-2500 compatibility mode) and have some questions. If anyone on this newsgroup can give me some help, I would appreciate it. What I want to do is to define six new LQ-mode charaters to replace the standard ROM characters, but keep the standard character fonts for all the other characters. my questions: 1) Do I really need the 32K buffer expansion option? The local computer store says about $60 and 2 weeks wait for shipment - is this reasonable? 2) If I donwload those six character definitions and then send the printer the escape sequence to switch to the downloaded CG rather than the ROM CG, what happens if the printer receives a character to print that is not in those six? Does it revert back to the ROM set? 3) are there any public domain utilities for editing and downloading printer fonts? How about font definition files? What I am doing this for is to get the printer to handle Old English characters (not an Old English font for our alphabet, but the extra letters used in the Old English language at the time of Beowulf). This is for my wife who is doing her Ph.D. dissertation in Old English. My computer is an AT&T Unix-pc (a.k.a. 3b1) running AT&T UNIX version 3.51m. thanks for your help, Bob Haar -- Bob Haar CSNET: HAAR@GMR.COM UUCP: uunet!edsews!rphroy!rcsac1!rhaar Computer Science Dept., G.M.
