Our company is looking for two variants of Postscript printers: Dual paper trays for letterhead and regular paper Fast interpreter for complex scientific plots I'd like to get recommendations for printers that satisfy either or (hopefully) both of these requirments at a reasonable cost ( < $4.5k ). Our printing volume is medium-duty and I have a preference for the Canon print engines because we stock the toner cartridges and these engines seem to work well. I'll consider other engines if people have glowing comments on reliability and maintainability. We currently have lots of NEC LC 890 Silentwriters which I thoroughly loathe (horror stories available on request). One printer that has worked out well for us is the Newgen Turbo for the fast interpreter (400 dpi to boot). It really screams, but it uses a Postscript clone and we have come across a few files where things didn't happen quite right. It doesn't have dual trays though. It does use a Canon SX engine, so I suppose I could use a third party product to add the second tray to these - any experiences with these? I've gotten some literature on the QMS 820 which looks OK for the dual paper tray requirement, but the data sheets indicate a 16MHz 68000 processor. The Turbo version sports a 68020 for I assume many extra $$$. Any QMS users out there who can give me a testimonial on these printers? All our printers are hung off of Appletalk, but get used by VMS, UNIX, Macs, and PCs, so compatibility and Appletalk are a must. I'll post a summary if replies warrant... -- _________________________________________________________________________ Dan Peterka S-CUBED 3398 Carmel Mtn Rd. dan@scubed.scubed.com (619) 587-8338 San Diego, CA 92121 _________________________________________________________________________
