Now that I have my new DeskJet 500 printer, I am in need of a TeX dvi driver for the printer. Does anyone out there know of a source, preferably public domain, for such a beast? Also, according to the manual, the printer supports HP's PCL language, (what level it supports I don't recall). Does anyone know how this relates to the implementation of the PCL language on the old and new laserjet printers. (i.e. will any laserjet drivers work with this printer?) Finally, I got the printer/computer (IBM clone) into a strange mode where doing a dos print would result in the printer printing out garbage all on one line. I tried various combinations of powering the printer down, powering down the computer, hitting the reset, using software (like spread sheets and word processor) to drive the printer, etc. and I still got garbage. After some swapping of computers and printers and cables I finally got the mess to work again, although what actually got it to work again is unkown. This gets to my question, : Does the Deskjet 500 have any non volatile memory which saves printer states when the printer is powered down? If so, how do I go about resetting the printer state to the original, out of the carton, state ? (The manual is murky on this point) If you know the answers to any of the above questions, I would appreciate it if you could enlighten me by email. Thanks in advance.
