[comp.periphs.printers] Fusing Unit on Laser Printers

JXY2@psuvm.psu.edu (Jie Yuan) (11/13/90)

Do you know what kind of fusing unit you have on the laser printers,
or regular xerox (copying) machines? The Digital laser printers have
a teflon coated steel drum, heated from inside by a filament tube,
controlled by the thermoswitch in touch with the surface of the drum.
Since heat is tranferred by radiation (Infrared), the start-up
time is rather long, about 1 minute.

Are there other types of fusing units? Do they reach the desired
temperature (160 degree C) faster? I am thinking about a way of
improving this.

Thanks! Jie
