[comp.periphs.printers] Broken Printer

grossman@eola.cs.ucf.edu (David Grossman) (11/16/90)

I have owned a Toshiba P321 24 pin head printer for 5 years.
Last year my power supply burned out and I replaced it. Now after
only one more year the new power supply is also burned out. I
took it to a local certified Toshiba service place and they told
me that I needed both a new logic board and a new power supply
at a cost of $175 for the logic board and $100 for the power
supply.

The questions I have (simply respond by E-mail instead of cluttering
the net -- I'll be happy to summarize the responses) is:

Does anyone have any suggestions that are economical and do
not involve taking the printer to the nearest junk yard?

Would anyone be interested in purchasing the broken printer
and maybe trying to fix it on their own?

Are there any recommendations in favor of any other kinds of
printers since I am probably in the market for a new one. I
would be interested in another 24 pin dot matrix printer?

Thanks for any help.
