[comp.periphs.printers] scsi connected printers

schneider@lngbch.enet.dec.com (Greg Schneider) (11/27/90)

Does anyone know of a list of companies that supply a SCSI connected printer?
Preferably a low cost printer (postscript is not a requirement) that has
a SCSI port
built into it (as oppossed to a seperate converter box).

thanks
greg

NCR currently offers the only SCSI connected printer which is one member
of a family of printer products called the NCR 6436. The printer is
based upon the Ricoh 4150 print engine that works at 15 pages per minute
and a duty cycle of 25,000 pages per month. Many device drivers are
currently under development, but the currently available MS/DOS driver
will allow the printer to deliver a 600K PageMaker page to your hands
in 20 seconds (first page out). The device driver is placed in your
config.sys and redirects your applications printer output to the SCSI
port. The printer can co-exist on the SCSI bus with other SCSI
devices like tape backups or disk drives.

Take a look at the PC Magazine article December 25,1990 issue on page
48 for a review.
