I am searching for any information about a printer that can utilitize a serial protocol called MELBAS. I may have the name MELBAS partially incorrect, as I got it verbally, however, I do know the name was used in reference to a Mitsubishi printer which is used to print from a semi-proprietary serial interface (semi in that some of its operations are not normal RS-232). The interface is part of a MAZAK M-32 Mazatrol CNC machine controller of which we have several at our company. Of course the dealer tells us that no one else in the world can talk to this thing, but he can sell us what we need for mega-bucks. I can't believe it's THAT weird, so I hoped someone might have some ideas. Electrically-speaking the interface is a simple 4-wire RS-232 with what appears to be XON-XOFF handshaking (then why the DTR I keep asking myself...) The weirdness is in the data that is actually sent out the port. Anyway, any help would be appreciated. Please E-mail any replies, as I don't get these groups in my news feed. Sorry if I picked the wrong place to post, I looked through my list and thought this was where to go, but I'm sure if it's not, I'll be kindly, tactfully, and patiently directed to the proper place :-) ---------------------------------------------------------------- rutgers!devon!mbitow!jdm | Jay Mumper | Hanlon's Razor: Mold Base Industries, Inc. | "Never attribute to malice that which Voice: (717) 564-7960 | is adequately explained by stupidity."
