[comp.periphs.printers] Epson LQ patch info needed

oas011@muvms3.bitnet (Wylma) (12/09/90)

I'm new here so please be patient if this has been discussed before.
Also, I know very little about computers and printers.

I have an Epson LQ printer which I use with an IBM 286 clone and an Apple IIC.
When I use new software, which allows me to choose the LQ printer in the setup,
everything is, of course, OK. However, I have many older versions of programs,
particularly for the Apple, that I like to use but don't want to have pay to
upgrade. When I print with these older versions, graphics are elongated
vertically. I understand that Epson sells an LQ patch that will take care of
this. My questions are:

(1) Is there a shareware program that will correct this problem? If so, where
can I get it?

(2) How does the LQ patch work? In other words, do I just run it once and it
does something to the printer? Is it some kind of command which is added to
the DOS? Is it some kind of command which is added to the program?

(3) Will I need separate patches for the MS-DOS machine and the Apple.

Any help/advice will be appreciated.
