A few weeks ago, I wrote in c.p.printers about a problem I was having with underlining on an HP DeskJet 500. It turns out that the problem with underlines showing up in the middle of the succeeding line was due to a "feature" of my word processor's printer driver, and to my handling of sub and superscript text. On the Hp, subscript and superscript text is moved up and down on the page, but the font size is not made smaller automatically (as it is on Epson compatibles). WordWriter ST sends out an init string to the printer before each print out - whether you specified one of your own or not - consisting of all the codes to "turn off" all the print attributes that the current printer driver knows about. My driver somehow ended up with all my text printed superscript (I think it was trying to turn off subscript - or I got those codes backwards, if so, BLUSH 8-), thus the underlines were all 1/2 line too low. My thanks to all those who responded to my pleas for help and I hope that someone else can learn from my tale 8-). Bob Pegram pegram@griffin.uvm.edu or ...!uvm-gen!pegram
