I have recently come into posession of the PacificPage P*E for my LJ2P. (I was told the HP cart was better, but this one was unavoidably cheap). To drive it, I have compiled and installed Tomas Rokicki's dvips software, version 5.47. Now the question. I've found that there are small but noticable problems with the character spacing when using some of the built-in Adobe-clone fonts. It's rarely more than a dot or two off, but it's noticable enough to bother me. The problem varies depending on the typeface - the Bitstream equivalent to Avante Garde appears to be the worst affected, The Palatino clone the least affected. There worst example is the Avante Garde capital "S" -- dvips puts far too much space around it on either side. This leads to two questions: 1) How different are the Bitstream fonts from the Adobe ones in terms of looks or spacing? 2) Do there exist 'afm' or 'tfm' files for the Bistream fonts? If not, can the standard Adobe ones be easily modified? Many thanks. -- Evan Leibovitch, Sound Software, located in beautiful Brampton, Ontario evan@telly.on.ca / uunet!attcan!telly!evan / (416) 452-0504 Ididntdoit, nobodysawmedoit, youcantproveathing. - Bart
