I have been reading recent recommendations concerning terminal emulation programs, and would like to add my comments. My initial review of information on the Softerm and ASCII programs would indicate that Softerm is superior in its ability to emulate `VT-100 like' terminals (i.e. add and delete characters/lines, etc.). Conversations with technical personnel at Southwestern Data Systems revealed that their program would only emulate a VT-52 type terminal. I believe this would be rather limiting when interfacing to UNIX editors. With regard to file transferring, literature would indicate that the two programs are fairly similar, perhaps with an edge toward ASCII Express. However, in August, Softronics will upgrade their program to allow transferring of both DOS and Pascal files. Both programs use macros and appear to be rather flexible in their user interface. Since I am considering purchasing one of these programs, I would like to get feedback on these comments from people who have used the respective programs. The new version of SOFTERM will also include the ability to upload/download CPM files. I will be beta-testing this new version shortly and will file a complete evaluation as soon as I get it. John Duncan (mb2c!jed) Michigan Bell (313) 424-0711
