All this talk about slow printing with DJ500 has gotten me interested in the whole area of print spooling (Seel my last post about $100+ spooling program from HP). Just for the heck of it, I went and loaded a print spooler program that came withmy Zenith system, called ZSPOOL. I gave it 512k of epanded memory. I went into WordPerfect 5.1, laded a 30-page document & executed a print job. By the time the DJ was printing page 3, all the document had spooled & WP reported that the print job was finished. I then exited from wordperfect and loaded harvard Graphics (the DJ 500 was printing about page 7 by then). I loaded a graph there and sent it to print; it took about 30 seconds for HG to report the print job complete. I then exited HG and loaded Procomm PLus and logged on here. By now, the DJ500 was on page 20-something of the WP document. While I was logging on, or thereabouts, the Wordperfect job finished and the HG graph started printing. NEAT! Only problem I experienced is some interaction between the spooler program and my procomm screen. I was getting bits of printer messages splattered around the screen once I logged on to the mainframe. Think I'll try the spooler program in PC Tools. In the meantoime, I strongly suggest that any/all check out the joys of spooled printing! Why didn't I try this years ago???? Bob M.
