I recently bought a Commodore 64. When I hooked it up and turned it on, I noticed that the text was jittering vertically. no problem, I thought - I had the same problem with my VIC-20 and all I had to do was toggle the interlace bit in the video register of the VIC chip. Well, no such luck on the 64. I looked all through the Programmers Reference Manual and no corresponding control exists. I called Commodore and their answer was that no fix exists yet. It seems that this problem occurs on sets with no vertical hold control. The problem was particularly noticed on Zenith and Sylvania TV's. Mine is a Sylvania. I have a monitor I can use so it's not a total loss for me, but I suggest that anyone about to buy a C64 should get agreement from the dealer to let you bring it back if it's incompatible with your set. The customer service rep at Commodore did say that if and when a fix was found for the problem, it would appear in their magazine POWER PLAY. Jay Gwatkin ITT Telecom Raleigh, NC
