I'm currently interested in evaluating a package consisting of SUN NewsPrint with a "better quality" print engine(s). The most recent list of supported print engines (sunflash 19mar91) shows 4 printers (Talaris) with ethernet support and throughput rates exceeding 12ppm. This meets with two of my criteria for a prospective print system. Print quality, local service, documentation, and technical support are also important factors. If your site is running Sun NewsPrint with one of the higher performance printers, I'd like to hear about your experience (good and bad) with the print system. Reccomendations of supported print engines are welcome as well. Does NewsPrint provide sufficient control/diagnostics to solve problems with the print system (esp. during installation and startup)? Also, I'd like any information on any sites that have generated support (either locally or through SUN) for new (unsupported) print engines. Is it difficult and/or time consuming to generate support for an as-yet unsupported print engine? If implemented outside of SUN, was the technical support from SUN (concerning the new implementation) readily avalable? thanks -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- Mike Smith | iWarp Systems Administration Internet: mws@iwarp.intel.com Voice: (503)629-6343 UUCP: {...}!any-MX-mailer-like-uunet!iwarp.intel.com!mws help() {Will someone please market an Ethernet version of "The Clapper"}
