I would like to buy an inexpensive printer that would work with a Macintosh and a Next. a HP Deskwriter seems good for the Mac, and a DeskJet with ghostscript fine for the Next. Are those actually different names for the same printer? Are there some differences which would make the ghostscript Deskjet driver unsuitable for a "Deskwriter" ? J-F Rit

Yes. They are in identical cases but one is made to talk Mac, the other, PC.

Although the units do have many mechanical parts in common, they are not the same. Specifically, the sets of escape sequences to which they respond are not identical, but there is some overlap. Professionally, I do not recommend you attepmt to use one of these printers in an environment designed for the other. . . .Will Will Allen HP Vancouver "Home of DeskJet and DeskWriter" Division willa@vcd.hp.com or ...!hplabs!vcd!willa
