I just purchased a TI Microlaser a few weeks ago. I don't have a lot of
experience with it, but it seems like it might be a fit for you.

Two models of the Microlaser can do postscript, the third is HP emulation
only. An appletalk interface is available.

I've only had mine for a few weeks, but I checked with friends of mine
that work at TI and they tell me these are pretty solid.

300 dpi

6 ppm

These prices are rough, off-the-top-of-my-head remembering from CompUSA:

  HP Only: $890
Postscript with 17 resident fonts: $1350
Postscript with 35 resident fonts: $1750

This was for 512K of memory and Centronics interface. Appletalk will
cost you a little more.

Telemart also carries the Microlaser and may get you better prices.

Available from CompUSA. I also live in the Dallas area, so finding a TI
service place is easy, if necessary.

The HP version contains pretty much the std set for an HP emulator. I don't
recall which postscript fonts are resident with each of those options.

This one can do both. That's why I bought it. I'm doing HP emulation now,
but for $400 I can upgrade to Postscript without having to throw out my
printer.

Hope this helps.

I need to buy a laser printer for my home office. It should :

            1. be compatible with Macintosh Plus System.
            2. require minimum maintainance.
            3. have high DPI (dots per inch).
            4. produce a minimum of 4 ppm (pages per minute).
            5. cost less than US$2000.00.

Additional factors : a. cost/availability of "dry-ink" cartridges.
                     b. included fonts.
                     c. PostScript vs. HP

Does anybody have any ideas on which laser printer I should buy ?
