We have a mixed environment of PC and Suns that can all access a HP laserjet II for printing. The trouble is that it works to well and we keep replacing those cartridges at a too high a rate. So I want to set up a form of accounting where I can at least find out where todays toner has gone. The problem is that much of the print is generated by PC's, using some package or other and I don't fell like trying to write a program to find out how many pages a particular print job will be. Instead I would like to be able to send a "request" to the printer and it should send back a status message to the controlling sun with in that message a number that says "I have printed so many pages in my life". The idea is to send the "request" at the beginning and at the end of the print job and the difference is accounted somewhere. Now for the question. Is there an escape sequence that will cause the laserjet to return a status message like that and if so, what is the escape sequence. Thanks, Anton Hofland. -- +-----------------------------------------------------+ | Within Great Britain : A.G.Hofland@uk.ac.newcastle | | The rest of the world : A.G.Hofland@newcastle.ac.uk | +-----------------------------------------------------+
