As far as I can tell from perusal of the manual, there doesn't seem to be a file name for console. However, there is a family of functions whose names begin with "c" (e.g. "cprintf", "cscanf", etc) who get/send i/o to the console window regardless of redirection. In response to the second question: I'm not familiar with the concept of "system" (I'm not a Unix programmer), but the concept of process suspension is meaningless on the Macintosh, unless you're using MultiFinder. You can run another text editor alongside LightspeedC under MultiFinder (I gather that's what you want to do) but remember that if you do that the project tracking no longer is automatic; you'll have to do the Make manually. As far as DA text editors go, there's an excellent Freeware (NOT public-domain. but it doesn't cost anything) text editor called SigmaEdit; it can be found in comp.binaries.mac. --Rich Rich SIegel THINK Technolog *slap* uh, Carnegie-Mellon University Confused Undergrad.
