I'm posting (to comp.sources.mac) the sources for MPW tools for creating and unpacking unix-compatible tar archives. The main disadvantage of these tools compared to the tar program coming across now is that they don't have a window interface and you need MPW to use them. Their main advantage is that they don't have a window interface and you need MPW to use them. For instance: directory {work} mtar :*.[ch] :docs: :applications:myprog | mcompress > work.tar.Z (where '*' stands for option-x of course). Their other advantage is that they store both forks of files (as well as the mac file info (creator, etc.)). By the way, the advantage of using (either version of) tar+compress instead of StuffIt, aside from them being freeware rather than shareware and being unpackable using standard Unix tools, is that they preserve the subdirectory structure. Seeing as how my experience so far with posting to comp.sources.mac has been non-optimal, I'm making these available via anonymous FTP and uucp, just in case the posting never makes it out.
