I just wanted to complain a little about some of my favorite programs. Someone always learns something, I thought. First let med tell you: I am using a SWEDISH System 4.3 (S1) - in Sweden! Finder (6.0 (S1)): The resource LAYO can easily be modified to show date as numbers (88-05-25) instead of usual format. It works well for "Show as Text", but do not apply to the Info-box (Cmd-I). DiskTop (version 3.0.2) Funny bug! This is a DA that can be used as a nice Finder-substitute. One feature is "Find by Modified date". I select this and DiskTop automaticly suggest the currecnt date, 88-05-25 in correct swedish format. I click "Find" and recieve the error message "Date invalid, format is dd/mm/yy". FileMaker Plus (version 2.1): Really great program, but cannot sort swedish characters correctly! Bad. WriteNow (1.0.7): Fast and nice WP-program. It is easy to create your own dictionary, since one can get a empty file and add any words. But the dictionary cannot see any internationa characters (above 80Hex) when I select suggest. WN cannot see both upper and lower case when spelling, so a word with odd characters have to be twice in dictionary, once for upper and once for lower. But the search is most odd - if I search for A and replace with X, it also do replace all 80H, 81H, 87H, 88H, 89H, 8AH, 8BH, 8CH characters (see Mac- ASCII-table). FullWrite (preliminary version yet): The decimal separator is comma instead of (.) in a swedish system. FW does suggest the american format (when I select Kerning, or Line-Spacing) "1.000", but does only accept when values is changed using arrows, and not entered from keyboard. The spelling-checker is great, but there is no way to replace it with my own, swedish (like in WriteNow). ??? PROGRAM WANTED ??? Is there a Macintosh communication program with a conversion/filter table that the user can modify? MacTerminal and inTalk can be set to "Swedish", so every received }{|][\ is translated to 8CH, 8AH, 9AH, 81H, 80H, 85H (see Mac-ASCII-table) and vice versa for sending from Macintosh. (Mainly those characters) But I would like to easily switch between a MS-DOS-machine (that uses its own 8-bit-ASCII-format, similar to Mac, but diffrent positioning of the "above80") and a "swedish mainframe" that uses ][\... (There is at least 3 such programs for the MS-DOS world...) Those that do sorting, search and similar routines - and want my blessing, they take a look in "Inside Macintosh", volumen V, chapter "International Utility Package", 9, 287, 291. "My blessing never hurts - I think" - I Disclaimer: Well, the usuall stuff... "My employer, nor organisation that I belong to have anything to do with above and below and in between." ____________________________________________________________ # freund@nada.kth.se # Low resolution photo: B-) # """"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""
