I have been using the new Language Systems Fortran for MPW for a while now. Back when it was in beta testing, I called the company to report a bug. Rich Norling, one of the authors, answered the phone. Towards the end of our conversation, I asked him about the relative slowness of the Language Systems compiler compared to Absoft and MacTran Fortran. To my surprise, he said that a main problem was overhead caused by MPW's procedure calling conventions, especially when large arrays or common blocks were in use. He also said that this problem should go away in MPW v3.0. Does anyone know what he was talking about? This sounds very strange to me.
