[comp.sys.mac.programmer] Oops: An Apple employee screws up

alan@Apple.COM (Alan Mimms) (07/18/88)

Ok. I goofed. I MEANT to post my little tirade about System 6.0
and the _Status disk driver call ONLY for Apple-local delivery.
Unfortunately, due in large part to my ignorance of the usenet news
stuff and due in small part to the fact that there is a problem here
with the "C" (Cancel a posting) command that prevents anyone from
cancelling a posting, I managed to broadcast a message to all the
world that I was disagreeing with something that Apple did. Big
deal.

Thank you to all of the people who sent me mail telling me about the
uses of usenet news. With all that tutoring, you can bet I'll do it
RIGHT next time for sure.

I do NOT have an official statement to make to the world at large
concerning the posting I erroneously made, nor did anyone at Apple
ask me to make THIS posting. I DO believe that the problems we've
seen with some hard disk drivers on System 6.0, to the best of my
(and several experts') knowledge do seem to be related to some
incompatibility with the _Status call. I would expect that the
experts on this subject within Apple will be more than happy to
respond to any requests for information concerning this subject.

I am NOT such an expert. I did call on one before I made my mistake,
however. The gist of what HE said is contained in the previous
posting.

Boy, am I embarrassed.

Contritely yours,
alan
