Ahh ha, found another bug in AppleShare. This one is a pretty obscure bug but it's nuisance value is pretty high. If a user submits a folder into a drop folder from a MFS volume (only checked for a 400K MFS disk but I suspect it's true for any MFS volume), then he/she retains ownership of that folder. This is not true for HFS volumes as the ownership of the folder becomes that of the owner of the drop folder. One other cosmetic effect of MFS volumes is that this submitted folder is not placed in the standard place. When something is placed in a folder it is put in the next available slot in the window of the contents with overflow being placed below the current contents. With submitting from MFS volumes they are placed to the left of the contents. I said obscure and that's pretty well it, I only picked up the problem when we couldn't look at some files submitted by a student. The real nuisance value comes because the only person who can change the ownership of the folder is the original user (there better be a super-user equivilent in the next version of AppleShare or I'll *Spit the dummy*). The superficial solutions is obvious, don't use MFS volumes. However, when many students are using the setup one can't keep an eye on all those minor details. The actual bug fix I won't even guess at, I've read the File Manager but am not conversant with it. Luke Visser. P.S. WHEN IS APPLESHARE VERSION 2.0 GOING TO BE AVAILABLE!!!!!!
