[net.micro] C-64 disk drive

CARROLL@usc-isib@sri-unix.UUCP (08/05/83)

I have a 1541 drive for my Commodore 64. I have it plugged into a
power strip along with the computer and monitor. When I shut down,
I turn off the C-64, the monitor, and the drive, in that order. Sometimes,
but not always, the drive will start running after I've turned the monitor
off. It will just keep whirring away until the power is just shut down.
It doesn't seem to matter what I had been doing with it, or if I had
even used it at all, but it does it about every other time. I don't
want to power the computer back up while the drive's motor is running.
Anyone know why this happens? Am I damaging the drive by killing the
power while the motor is on? It seems to be my only choice. Help!
