[comp.sys.mac.programmer] Metcom modula-2 for Macintosh

mikael@sm.luth.se (Mikael Eriksson) (11/30/88)

The MetCom modula-2 compiler have been advertised in
MacTutor two issues in a row. Can somebody who have used
(or at least seen it used) this compiler please answer a few
questions about it.

How would you rate it against compilers such as Lightspeed C and
Lightspeed Pascal in areas such as userinterface, and compiling speed?
How is the debugger compered to the above compilers?

I have MPW and have previously considered buying one of Sempersoft
or TML modulas. How does MetCom compare to these compilers. Is the
environment so good so it is worth to move from MPW.

Can I use the debugger on a 1 Meg Mac+ with hard disk. (MPW3.0 and
SADE sounds nice but the hardware needed would be a
*big and heavy and expensive* investment for me.

Can I create code resources (XCMD/XFCN is a primary target here) and
how easy is it to do it? Does it have interface files for HyperCard?

If you know something else interesting about this compiler I would
of course appreciate such inforation also.

PS.
I saw a MPW modula compiler called P1 mentioned in this
newsgroup a while ago. Anybody knows anything about that one?
DS.
