I have a very large text file (printed out from a database) which I need to transfer to a Mac for desktop publishing purposes. I would like to create a MacWrite compatible file on Unix so that I can specify font styles on particular fields. I may end up just trying to import the Unix database into a Mac database program and doing the formatting there, but I would rather do it in Unix so that I don't have to buy a Mac database program. I am having a hard time trying to figure out the file format of a MacWrite document. I have the PICT file format notes which refer to a 512 byte header but don't explain anything about it. Also, there is very little explanation of exactly how the opcodes work. You are just supposed to use QuickDraw for everything, I guess. If you have had any experience creating MacWrite files on Unix, or could tell me exactly where I could find out about it, please email to me... A while ago I made a program in MPW C that I used in this same purpose, i.e. it makes MacWrite-files out of text with embedded formatting codes (e.g. >italic text< to mean italics etc.) output from a database. It should be easy to convert for compilation in UNIX since I mainly used the Standard C library (Apple licensed the header files from AT&T so they are completely (?) compatible). If there is a general interest I could post it to comp.sys.mac.sources but first I would have to translate the identifiers (most are in Icelandic) and the comments...
