OK boys and girls...HELP

IM IV pp 225-228 describe the new serial driver. In particular, a new
result code portInUse is supposedly returned when the application
attempts to open the port. Does this work under multifinder?

Poking around I have launched a simple application that opens the
modem port and then idles. I then launch another application under
LSC 3.0 and using the debugger I watch it call RAMSDOpen() and return
a result code of noErr! What's the deal?

Any enlightenment you can provide with respect to getting this
information from within my application would be greatly appreciated.
