[net.micro] MIT TCP/IP for the IBM PC

From: John L. Romkey <romkey@mit-borax>

This message is in response to the message from BILLW about MIT's TCP/IP for
the IBM PC. The code is not in the public domain, but interest is great
enough that we are trying to arrange for the code to be both available and
supported. As soon as progress has been made on this front, we'll make an
announcement to this group. Please don't try to contact CJT@Mit-MC (Chris
Terman); he'll probably be either bewildered or irritated since he has
nothing to do with the project.

This implementation of TCP/IP was done primarily as a research project. The
main goal was to provide an efficient implementation of the IP protocol
family on a personal computer, a goal which was met. A non-goal was
"compatibility" with Unix-style systems. Some parts of the code are very
non-Unix-like and it would probably require a lot of work to make them run
in a Unix kernel-like environment.

                                                                      - John Romkey
