[net.micro] Pournelle revisited

I think I want my dime back, 'cuz I do care. First, I don't see the "16
bit fright" mentioned - notice the mention of the SAGE in several
articles and also the Zenith Z-100.

I think that the anonymous author of that spurious transaction has
missed a rather primitive point. It 'ain't' but the last year that hard
disks dropped down to prices that placed them in near orbit instead of
being multiples of parsecs away (at least for my piggy bank). Besides,
having $6,000 invested in an 8 bit micro (a 6809 at 64k and 1.2 meg 8"
floppies), I can personnaly say that I am locked into the 8 bit world
for a while.

And I would dearly love to know what "average people are more
sophisticated about talking to computers" means?!?!? Really? Does Mr. Anon
mean the average Joe Schmuck punching a time card? RREEAALLYY? Then why
is the Automatic Teller Window at the bank usually empty and the lines
inside back out to the door?!?!?! Why do the lines grow at the jewelry
watch repair counters the day after we go to Daylight Savings time??

No, what Mr. Anon has is either a BAD case of 16 bit snobbery or the
plans to the Denver mint. You see, my 8 bit machine is NOT an outboard
machine to run ancient and unportable cpm programs. What it IS is a
6809 with total stand alone capabilites (64k, 1.2 meg 8" drives), and
with the recent addtion of a "C" compiler, it "ain't" unportable. I
would dearly love to get a 16 bit machine, but the $6000 invested in the
one I have is rather difficult to let go.

Wake up, Anon, I don't think you know what you are talking about; and
here's that dime back.
