My dad is going on a business trip to Singapore in a week or two, and offered to get me a hard drive there (he has heard thet the prices on electronics-made-on-the-Pacific-rim are about 1/2 what you could get them for here. I know there's been some discussion of this recently, but I sort of tuned it out. I'd like to know what type of drive I should ask him to get: I can deal with the case and power supply, cables, etc. I'm willing to work with a generic driver or buy a driver if it's reasonably cheap, but would prefer to use Apple's driver if possible. I currently own a Photon 20 hard drive: on recent death of its power supply, on opening it I found that it contained a ST225 and a controller card. Thing is, the controller card has two connectors for drives. Is there any software that can take advantage of a second drive connected to this connector? What's the chance that the software I have now will (i.e., how transparent is it?). Are there any other types of drives that I can plug into this type of board (either replacing the ST225 or on the other connector?) Would I be best off getting a SCSI drive and setting it up as another volume? I'm looking for something in the 40-60 MB range, speed isn't a real big concern, but something I would look at. If you can give me any answers, I'll be grateful so long you'll probably get sick of it. Please include any and all info: manufacturers, part numbers, speeds, sizes, and characteristics that make a particular drive useful (the selection in Sinagapore may be spotty, or have different names/part numbers than here- at the least I want to be able to give my dad a list of desirable characteristics). I read these groups, but mail is more likely to get to me (we expire news pretty often.) I will summarize all mail I get and posts I see to the net in about a week - 10 days.
